Dorothy Marie Gillespie Humanitarian Award
Dorothy Marie Gillespie
The award is named in memory of Dorothy Marie Gillespie, a lifelong nurse, breast cancer survivor, and tireless advocate whose compassion and service touched countless lives throughout Northwest Indiana. Many knew Dorothy through her 22 years as Nurse Coordinator for the Y-Me National Breast Cancer Support Group, her leadership in hospice care, or her dedication to community health in Munster.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, Dorothy turned her personal journey into a mission to ensure that no one faced breast cancer alone. Through education, peer support, and access to critical services, her work helped improve the quality of life for patients, survivors, and their families.
The Pink Ribbon Society is now accepting nominations for the Dorothy Marie Gillespie Humanitarian Award, established in 2021 to honor local individuals who have made a meaningful and measurable impact in the lives of men and women affected by breast cancer.
Past Recipients Rosanne Loughmiller, MaryAnne Lehayne, Kristina Chip, and Jennifer Sanders.
